Product Review and Giveaway: Redneck Remedy

A friend of mine from pharmacy school has created a product called Redneck Remedy (RR) (don't laugh, we're from Arkansas) that can be used for sunburns, other minor burns and skin irritations.

Now I try really hard NOT to get sunburned, but with summer running and beachgoing, sometimes it still happens. I have used RR several times this summer, and I just have to recommend it to you guys. It has lidocaine and hydrocortisone as the active ingredients...nothing crazy or new but the way it's blended together makes it go on great, soak right in and feel soothing to your skin.

Pros:
clear, unlike the bright blue and green typical of aloe gels
rubs in smoothly, nongreasy and nonsticky (I hate sticky gels)
is soothing and feels good on sunburned skin, helps ease the burn and promote healing

Cons:
Can't buy it in stores, but it's super easy to order at redneckremedy.com
Smell, which is unavoidable due to the key ingredient being tea tree oil. Here's a blurb from the website about it's use:

"Tea Tree Oil is widely recognized for its anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, anesthetic, and antibacterial properties that help heal. It is transdermal in nature, meaning it penetrates deep into the multiple layers of the skin and is a "carrier" of active ingredients, generally improving their effectiveness."

Unfortunately it doesn't smell the best in my opinion, but I'm willing to smell like tea tree oil temporarily because the product is excellent otherwise, and I think the tea tree oil is an important ingredient that makes this formula great, so it's definitely worth the smell (it's not bad, just pretty strong).

Redneck Remedy was created by a pharmacist I graduated with, and he's one of the smartest and nicest guys you could ever meet. I truly hope he has great success with this and any other product he develops. I think every medicine cabinet needs a bottle of Redneck Remedy on hand for unexpected burns.
If this is something you think you would like to try, drop me a comment telling me why you need Redneck Remedy and I'll draw a winner on Wednesday.

It sounds like an interesting product. I do have a couple of questions.

Is it safe for kids?
How long is the shelf life? (I doubt if I would use a heck of a lot of it)

Thanks!

Sounds like an interesting product and this is why I need it, Amanda:
First and foremost, I too am an Arkansan redneck. I thus place a great value on supporting my fellow statesmen. Secondly, although I have a desire to support this product, I am a social worker and presently adopting a child, so the cash flow does not support such a purchase. Since I'm spending my days in the sun with the kids that I work with AND since I am training for the Detroit half and in the sun lots (any of your readers running this?) I believe I would be a great candidate to try this product out---for free! :) Also, I think I may be your only reader who can try this out while in Ethiopia....right?

what a cool sounding product; gotta love the name. i'm not sunburnt but i am curious to know how this might work on itchyness since it has hydrocortisone. for that reason, i'd be interested in trying it out. for it's purpose though, i'm just not burnt right now.

Sounds like a cool product. Since I can burn even with 70 SPF on, I'd love something like that to try afterwards.

I've used tea tree oil for a number of things and found that I got used to the smell after a while.

Very impressed! I'd love to win it - my husband burns very easily and so I'm stuck rubbing the sticky gels on his back - leaving my hands feeling icky! I'd love to try something that isn't sticky!

I'd love to try it! Does chafing qualify as a skin irritation? I got some SEVERE skin-rub on my back from my hydration pack during my 3+ hour run yesterday and vaseline is just not helping. OWWW!

I too, try super hard not to get sun burned but now that I live where the sun rarely shines, when I go down to Cali, it happens once in awhile.

I need it b/c I'm not sure I have anything in my house that says "redneck" (well, except for Justin's Pabst Blue Ribbon beer shirt hahaha) and who doesn't need a little redneck in their life?
