Human Pincushion

or the latest person on Intervention...not sure which I resemble more after today. Here's 3 things Thursday.

1. I failed my one hour glucose tolerance test on Monday, so I had to do the 3 hour today to see whether or not I have gestational diabetes. For those of you who don't know, this involves a fasting blood draw, drinking a really syrupy sweet drink, then 3 more blood draws on the hour for 3 hours. My veins were not being cooperative so I have needle marks on several places on both arms. Ouch! The good news is that I passed this one!!! At least I'm fairly certain I did. I work at the hospital so I see my lab results before my doctor does, so after googling them I conclude that I passed..I'll let you know if the dr thinks otherwise. I celebrated with a cookie;)

2. Running-hurts. feels like a constant side stitch throughout my entire stomach. Ouch. Although some days it doesn't hurt much at all, so I just have to run when I can and walk the rest.

3. I am SO ready for warm weather. We had a tease last week with some 60 something degree days but now we're back down to lows in the 20s and 30s. Boo!!

Oh no, all those needles do not sound fun. :( Good news that you passed the test, and great news that you treated yourself to a cookie. :)

Aacck! I know the feeling. I had to give blood so much with my first. Yuck.

I was wondering if you run with something that supports your belly? I've been meaning to ask you.

yikes about all the needles and pokes! no fun. i'm awful at having blood drawn even though i have decent veins (so i've been told). hopefully the doc re-confirms your passing. lol about celebrating with a cookie ;)

I'm so ready for spring too!

Sucks that you had to do the 3 hour test. I thought the 1 hour test was torture enough!

I think I'd rather be a cookie-eating pin cushion than an unpunctured celiac-er...

Glad to hear the tests came back (unofficially) normal!

Thats great news. Sorry you had to go through all that crap for it though. Maybe it's just prepping you for the childbirth expereince. jk.

Same thing happened to me on my first pregnancy. I didn't pass the first test, so I stopped drinking juice (which I drank a lot of) and that seemed to work. The second test was passed with flying colors. Your preggers pics are adorable!

Can I just say that your post completely gave me the heebie-jeebies as I too hated being the human pincushion (really small veins and hard to fine. I always ask for the person who draws blood from babies or oncology patients. I want an expert).

Is it bad that I actually LIKED the syrupy sweet stuff?

Thanks for all the memories!

Amanda,
I'm so sorry to hear you had to go through that nasty testing. Boo! Needles are definitely one of the worst parts of being diabetic (though my list is long). Glad to hear you passed it, though.

Slow down the running, girl! Don't overdo it! And yes, I think 99% of the country is ready for spring!

Hang in there... hope your race goes well this weekend. Hope you're taking it easy!

HUGS from Orlando...

hey, just found your blog on Kristin's blog...you just gave me flashbacks to when I had those glucose tests! Hope your test came out okay!
