Since taking marathon training off the table, I'm having a hard time getting out there and getting shorter runs in. My motivation is seriously in need of a boost. Right now I'm laying on the couch in my running clothes so that I'll be that much closer to getting out the door. Actually, Rich and I leashed up a couple of the dogs about an hour ago and made it about 40 steps before we realized it was too hot for them to run so we came back home with plans to head out again later when it cools off. Those of you who have had injuries or had to cancel races for any reason, how did you stay motivated?
We have had a great weekend. Friday I met my friend Erin downtown for a drink and some girl-talk. Yesterday Rich and I cooked and then took food over to Brian and Erin's. Their little baby is allergic to dogs and cats, so they can't come to our house :( I made homemade pesto chicken penne and stuffed banana peppers, and Rich grilled bacon wrapped scallops. And maybe I made a cake...it was delish! I'll be putting up some pics and recipes on my other blog soon.
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend, I can't believe it's Sunday afternoon already!

hey girl- i'm digging your new blog and cant wait for all the recipes!
I hear you , I need races to keep me motivated sometimes! Hope you find some soon!!
Usually my running buddies keep me just as motivated as any races I have planned. Maybe that would give the energy a boost?
Heat sucks the life out of you that is for sure!
Thanks for the vote of confidence today! Def appreciated it!
I totally understand how hard it is to remain motivated when you don't have a race to train for, but you have to find some other reason, whether that means focusing on variety of runs or speed, or trying to lose weight, etc, any one of those can help.
Sorry your in a funk. I was injured at the begning of this year and had to take a couple of months off. I was depressed and helpless for about a month, then realized eventually I would be able to run again and I wasn't making it any easier on me by gaining weight and letting my muscles get soft so I just started doing a TON of cross training. Swimming, spin classes, weights. I hope you can find something to keep your mind engaged. I totally understand how hard it is. Hang in there!
that dinner sounds delich.
there must be going around. i'm in a funk too. come on, get a run in!
i've been rather blah myself lately too. :-/ it's no fun. i want to run... until it's actually time to run and then i just want to sit. :)
maybe find a 5k or 10k to sign up for? is that an option?
I must be behind, why did you cancel your marathon?? I have also been seriously lacking motivation lately...I stepped it up a teensy bit last week and I'm hoping this week I can start getting some more miles in. This month for me will be my heaviest until taper time in a few weeks!
Hate that you're lacking in motivation too but oh man do I know how that feels. Perhaps the cooler temps will help ease you out there?
Hope you two are doing well :)
Usually I tell myself to go do whatever (elliptical, stair master, swim, bike, rowing machine) for 15 minutes. For me, this is always such a reasonable time that I end up convincing myself to go and usually end up staying for a lot longer than 15 minutes!
Sometimes it also helps to find a race really far in the future, when you're sure you'll be injury free and start making plans for that race. In the meantime, you know you'll have to keep up your fitness somehow.
PS Thanks for the Tritop recommendation! I'm starting my xmas list already =).
I am lacking motivation too, but I think I need to follow what Kristen is recommending! I am worried that maybe I got a stress fracture because I gained about 10 pounds, so staying heavy isn't going to help.
So, it's sad, but not gaining weight is one of the big motivators for me!
Staying motivated during injuries is TOUGH. I had no idea how tough. I guess just keep a positive outlook and look forward to what you can do and what you can control.
Can't help you on the motivation - mine is totally gone.
I've been enjoying reading your other blog too!
