Training Update

Hi ya'll, sorry I haven't written in the last week. I've been a bit uninspired and bummed....I'm no longer training for the Outer Banks Marathon in November and am having to limit running to about 10 miles per week. I won't bore you with the details, but it's per doctor's orders for now. So what the heck is this running-addicted gal supposed to do??? Without a training plan on the fridge, I feel lost. I'm going to create my own plan each week full of various workouts like shorter runs, dog walks, strength training, gym classes, biking, etc. In a way I'm looking forward to the variety, and I know that marathons will always be there when I'm all healed and ready to get back to distance running. I've been in a bit of a funk for the last week dealing with this change, but now I feel better about it and ready to move forward with other types of workouts. I swear, exercise keeps me sane!

I'm also starting another blog about my attempt, at least for September, to cook more at home and eat out less. I thought about just combining it with this blog, but I'm guessing a lot of the posts will be short and not all that interesting, so I decided to just create a new one for this project. I'm not a huge fan of blogs that are nothing but pics of food (after awhile all bowls of oatmeal start to look the same), so I hope to post lots of recipes, only post pics of things that seem unique (or that turn out to be a huge mess:)) and just in general document our household challenge of eating home more often. If you want to check it out, here's the address:

hmm i'd guess there's a bun in the oven but i don't think you'd be in a funk over that. doesn't sound like you are injured but whatever it is, i hope it gets better soon so you can get your daily fix! missing workouts/cutting them short is no fun. added your other blog to the reader in hopes of seeing some uniquely destroyed delicacies ;)

Aww, it's no fun when you're training schedule goes out the window and you're told not to do a marathon! Last fall, I trained for my first half and ended up with two stress fractures a few weeks before the big day! I cried!!! Now, I'm training once again for that same half and I'm hoping it doesn't happen again!

Sorry to hear that, Amanda. :( Whatever the issue is, I hope it's resolved quickly. Til then, enjoy all the other exercise! Sometimes variety is good. Thinking of you!!!

(Totally checking out the food blog!)

i'll def check out the new project!

i think your plan of making weekly agendas is perfect!!! you'll love it. plus with more time to focus on things like classes you could really take advantage of core stuff- yoga, ab classes, etc.

Oy, I'm sorry to hear about the running hiatus! A necessary evil of the sport, I suppose, and maybe a blessing in disguise and a chance to try out new fun things?

Enjoy the cooking adventures!

I am struggling with the same thing right now. I had to cancel my Oct. 17th marathon because my shin is messed up (the doctor thinks it's a stress fracture) and not running is killing me. And draining me. And depressing me. But... I am actually trying to be upbeat about it, like you are. It's hard!

Sorry to hear that you're unable to continue your training, but you're right, there are always marathons to run, and you can return to them when you're better!

I sympathize - it's so hard to keep going when your big plans have to change. I had probably a full week of mourning after having to pull out of MCM. Just do your best to stay active, and we'll be here cheering you on.

I'm checking out the food blog too - can always use new at home recipe ideas. :)

Ohh here we go, I missed this one :) BUMMER I so hate that you're injured! If you want to hit up yoga sometime, I've been trying out Charleston Power Yoga on King, they have a free community class Fridays at 5:45 which is great!

I may try and go again on Wednesday at some point.

Going to go stalk the new blog now :)

I'm way behind but I'm just catching up now.

Sorry about the funk and about the marathon. Whatever it is, will it pass? If so, then there is always another marathon!

In the meantime, you should enjoy running short distances (sounds like you can still run at least a little). Maybe pick up some more Tri training, if you're able.

Mmmmm I love food blogs, it's going in my reader!
