How many miles do ya'll typically get out of one pair of running shoes? This latest pair is the only pair I have ever actually tracked how many miles they have on them. I'm at 350, and I think it's time for some new ones. After work yesterday I walked the bridge with a couple friends and after walking 5 miles my feet were killing me! I didn't know if it was just because I'm not used to walking that far, only running, and/or if my shoes are worn out. What say you??
Confession time: I have only run one mile in the past week. One lame mile, and it wasn't even very fast. I have walked 5 miles and gone to Body Pump twice. Ok, I take that back. I did run 3 last Saturday but it seems like forever ago so I almost forgot to count it. So weekly total is 4 miles run, 5 miles walked, 2 weights classes. I'm shooting to run a minimum of 10 miles per week so I definitely didn't meet my quota this week.
TGIF!!! I decided very last minute (a couple days ago) to fly to Arkansas today for one of my best friend's baby showers. She and her husband live in northeastern AR so I'm actually flying into Memphis tonight since that's the closest airport to where they live. She's due in November, and I haven't seen her since May so I'm excited to see that belly and to see some friends I haven't seen in over a year. I'm excited!! I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

I don't track the miles...I probably should. I usually run in them till something hurts {I don't recommend that}.
I try to keep up with the miles on mine and can tell when it's time to get a new pair. I believe you can get anywhere from 300-500 miles out of the shoes. Definitely don't rely on the tread. You can have a pair that look brand new but have 400 miles on them and it will be time to get a new pair. I believe it has more to do with what goes on with the inside of the shoe. I'm due for a new pair now and hopefully will be getting them this weekend!
Don't worry about your mileage this week, we all have slumps and at least you did get out there and walk some so that's still a form of exercise. :)
I usually buy new shoes at around 300 miles, but I'll still wear the old ones occasionally until they get closer to 500 miles - just not every run!
I would say that walking is definitely different on the legs than running, so that could have contributed to the discomfort as well.
Have a great weekend away!
have a great time in arkansas!
i'm a big guy, so i can only get about 150 miles on a pair of shoes. 200+ lbs of impact for the length/frequency of my runs means i blow through them pretty quick. I got two pairs around christmas that are now around 175 miles each, and i think that's what's been causing my stupid hip problems.
I'm like you I start to notice aches and that's when I decide it's time for new shoes.
Do you have more than one pair? That also helps as shoes need 24 hours between uses for the cushion to fully bounce back
oh and good call on visiting the friend, that's always such a great time!
have a great trip!!
At the store, we tell people 300-500 miles or 6-8 months. At 8 months they start to really fry out and lose cushion. Of course I tend to stretch this a bit personally.... If you have pain the the shoes, time for new ones.
are you training for something? if not, and 10 miles is your goal, i would run by feel. if you feel like going- def go!! and if you don't... ask yourself if you'd feel better after you finish, or say you'll just run 1 mile and maybe you'll get 2 after you get started. :) don't beat yourself up about it tho!!! not worth it!!!
i'm not sure on shoe mileage. i kinda go by feel. if i start to feel knees, shins, whatever, i buy a new pair. i like to have 2 to rotate anywya.
My last pair of shoes I retired from Long Runs at 320ish... If you feel like your shoes are done they probably are. That does not mean you need to take them out of rotation. Use them on crummy weather days or low mileage days..
Have fun at the party! What a great reunion it will be.
I just started keeping track, but I've heard between 300-400. If they hurt, I think it's time to replace them!
I can usually get up to 450 in my shoes. In my old brand I couldn't get more than 300. When I get to about 300 miles I buy a new pair and use the old ones for shorter runs and the new pair for longer runs.
Don't worry about having an off week it happens! I'm aiming for 20 miles a week and I'm not sure I'll hit that this week, we shall see.
I usually get around 350-400 before mine start bothering me. I think a lot of times it just depends o you and the type of shoe. If they're feeling rough, it's probably time for a new pair.
I never get more than 300... I start feeling things I dont typically feel around 275. Sad :( I go through so many shoes! Mine are also VERY cushioned, so they wear down fast because they are so cushioned.
around 300 too 400 miles.. sounds about right!!! new shoes time! have fun @ the shower.
Typically, I shelve shoes after 300 miles, but sometimes I get a little more or a little less wear out of them.
I don't track the miles, but I go by feel - less cushioning, more "twinges" in the knees- time for new shoes. Don't worry about a down week, sometimes we have to listen to our bodies and need the rest!
i'm with everyone else - 300-500 miles. depends on the shoe, how often you ran in them (day after day or rotate), body structure... but mostly the shoe. i've had some that barely made it to 300 and some that didn't give me issues til 500. i track the miles on them (excel dork) and replace them when i feel like they are making my legs/feet achy. could be mental, but as long as it's within the range i figure it's probably time to replace anyway.
hope you had a fun weekend! get a new pair of shoes and get back to logging some miles! :)
hope you had a fantastic weekend!! I've been injured and haven't managed to find "THE" shoe, until now, so I've never really retired a shoe due to mileage yet...
For me, depends on the brand. My mizunos are definitely done by 350 miles. When I wore asics, they lasted longer. I'm wearing my first pair of Saucony's now 'cause the shoe guy said they usually last longer than Mizunos, but I only have 150 on them so far.
Have a great trip! (And I hope to get a package in the mail to you tomorrow. It's packed and ready to go, just need to actually make it to the post office).
Hmm I think I got around 400 out of my last pair....the Mizunos I'm using now though have less than 300 and hurt me already...of course I think I need a half size bigger, so probably why! I do, however, notice a huge difference in aches and pains between walking and running. For me running is much easier, actually!
